Additional Information

Toyota has agreed to a settlement to resolve claims that certain 2013-2018 RAV4 vehicles were equipped with defective battery terminals. Plaintiffs alleged that the defective terminals could lead to loss of power, vehicle stalling, and potentially even engine compartment fires due to overheating.

Toyota denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to a settlement to compensate affected vehicle owners and lessees. The settlement includes several components designed to address the alleged issues and provide relief to consumers, including:

  • Free Battery Inspection Program: Toyota will provide free inspections to ensure batteries are the correct size and replace any damaged or missing components used to secure the battery.

  • Battery Replacement Reimbursement: Eligible class members can receive up to $75 for past battery purchases. Reimbursement eligibility varies based on purchase date and any previous discounts received.

  • Reimbursement for Out-of-Pocket Repairs and Damages: Class members can claim reimbursement for repairs, replacements, and damages related to unique thermal events caused by the battery defect.

Claim deadlines vary depending on the type of reimbursement sought:

  • Unreimbursed out-of-pocket repairs and other expense reimbursement: December 1, 2024
  • Battery replacement reimbursement: June 25, 2025
  • Out-of-pocket unique thermal events reimbursement: July 1, 2025
